Installation of hardwood depends on what type of hardwood you choose – whether it is 3/4” solid or an engineered hardwood which are mainly 3/8” to 1/2” thick. Engineered hardwoods consist of two or more layers of wood laminated together. 3/4” is solid wood and is nailed or stapled and can only be installed above grade. 3/8” or 1/2” engineered hardwood can be nailed, stapled, floated, or glued, and most can also be installed below grade. All hardwoods require an expansion joint between the hardwood and the walls, therefore shoemold is required to hide the gap. We can advise which hardwood is best for your application.
